    Cautionary Cat Tales –
Things every cat owner should be aware of

This March we are raising awareness to make regular vet visits with your cat. They are often so self sufficient we forget that our cats need regular check ups too.

To reduce those emergency situations we have put together our list of Cautionary Cat Tales. These are items you need to be aware of and keep your cat away from.

    • Potentially Toxic Plants
    • People Food No Nos
    • Common Household items

    Toxic Plants

The follwing is a partial list of plants that are considered toxic (poisonous, possibly dangerous.)

Lilies – are especially toxic to cats and can cause life-threatening kidney failure even in small amounts

    Aloe Vera
    Amaryllis
    Azalea
    Carnation
    Daffodil
    Dieffenbachia
    Eucalyptus
    Ficus
    Geranium
    Holly(berries)
    Hydrangea
    Iris
    Ivy
    Jimson weed
    Mistletoe
    Morning Glory
    Mushrooms
    Philodendron
    Poinsetta
    Pyracantha
    Rhododendron
    Tomato(vines)
    Tulip

Regard all plants as potentially toxic until you have good reason to believe otherwise.

People Food No Nos for Cats

    Grapes
    Raisins
    Avocado

    Products containing xylitol, like gum
acconted for over 17,453 poinsing cases in 2009. More

    People Medications

Medications accounted for more than 45,000 APCC calls in 2009. Pets like to snatch up pills and medicines and supplements that we may leave out for kids or an elder. Keep a tight grip on presciptions and over the counter medications they can have devastating affect on your pets.
